“There are nights when the basket seems a lot bigger than it is. There are nights when you can’t even make the easiest layups,” Nowitzki said. “I loved the way I started right away. I felt it was going to be a good night, and I stayed aggressive.”
On December 2nd of 2004, Dirk Nowitzki scored 43 points in the first four quarters against Tracy McGrady and the Houston Rockets and then 10 straight points in OT as the Mavs beat the Rockets 113-106. His final output of 53 was a career and franchise-high. He also filled up the other columns in the stat sheet with a season-high 16 rebounds, 3 steals, 4 blocks and was 21-of-22 from the free throw line.
As for T-Mac, he wasn’t so bad either. He finished with 48 points, 9 rebounds, 9 assists, 6 3-pointers, 3 blocks and 2 steals.
“This was like Jordan and Bird hooking up,” said Jason Terry. “This one will be on ESPN Classic.”
