“Get that $#it out!”
I don’t know who yelled it, but I’m going to pretend it was 5’9 Isaiah Thomas yelling it after he rejected 6’11 DeMarcus Cousins during the Celtics win over the Kings on Sunday. A win that included a season-high 46 points in the opening quarter from the Celtics and an impressive line of 22 points, 9 assists, 2 steals and 1 impressive block from their little captain.
“I did it a couple of times in practice. You can put that on paper,” said Thomas, joking about his former teammate who thought the block was a goaltend. “No, we were joking around and, when I blocked it, it was good. We always joke around in the game and I was able to talk a little trash to him.”
Thomas, celebrating his 27th birthday on Sunday, had 27 career NBA blocks coming into this game and possesses more hops than you probably think. Although he’s never dunked in a NBA game, he has thrown down some nice dunks during pre-game warm-ups and won the UW’s Midnight Madness dunk contest back in 2009 by jumping over somebody!
He also had one of the nastiest blocks I’ve ever seen in person, when he rejected a dunk attempt by 6’8 Trevor Ariza at this past summer’s Drew League vs Seattle Pro-Am Game. Unlike the block on Boogie from behind, this rejection was a 1-on-1 meet me at the rim block.
Here’s a photo I took of the block during the game…. I know. I know. Sorry, I was in the nose bleeds.
