Amare Stoudemire’s horrible screen & Spike Lee’s horrible weekend
I’m feeling really bad for Knicks’ super fan Spike Lee right now. His remake of Park Chan-Wook’s classic Oldboy came out last week and was destroyed by critics and released on only 533 screens where it flopped worse than anything you will see in a Clippers game this year. How bad of flop – $1,250,000 over it’s first 5 days bad…Catching Fire only beat it out by $73 million.
I’m sure after it’s first few days in release, Spike was trying to avoid hearing anything more about the film bombing so he was probably hoping his beloved New York Knicks would cheer him up. Well, the Knicks and their $91 million roster are on a 9 game losing streak, JR Smith has a sore knee, Metta and Kenyon Martin are supposedly bickering, Melo and Iman had a “miscommunication and basically the Knicks just suck right now. Suck as in if it was a film it would be compared to the success of Oldboy right now.
Here’s a scene from Sunday’s Knicks game that’s as SMH worthy as any scene from Spike’s latest film.
To make Spike feel better, at least he wasn’t banned from the MSG VIP areas like Woody Allen and atleast Oldboy did better than Kevin Durant’s Thunderstruck which only grossed $587k. Yes you read that right. Thunderstruck grossed less money in the theaters than SpaceJam did during matinee showings on opening day.
