“This is one time you can be a dad and not just coach.” said Chris Paul to Doc Rivers after Austin Rivers went off for a career-playoff high of 25 points including 15 in the 3rd quarter.
Paul, returning after missing the first 2 games, gushed about the play of his teammate who has been a favorite to pick on by NBA fans.
“Austin was unbelievable. I was probably his biggest cheerleader in the third quarter. I just kept saying, ‘I don’t want to play anymore if I don’t have to.'”
Chef Rivers was so hot in the 2nd half that fans were chanting his name and he even did James Harden’s stirring the pot celebration after a deep 3 over Jason Terry.
But not everybody was so thrilled about seeing Doc and Austin have a hallmark moment.
“You can’t allow guys like Austin Rivers to score 25 points. That’s too many for him,” said Dwight Howard who was 4 of 11 from the free-throw line.
Redick’s final stat line was 25 points (10-13 fg, 3-6 3pt, 2-2 ft), 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal, 1 block in 23 minutes.
“You can’t allow guys like Austin Rivers to score 25 points. That’s too many for him,” Howard said. “We have to do a better job of attacking the basket. Tonight we didn’t do that, and that’s when they ran away with the lead.”
