“I do this. Don’t get it twisted.” said Westbrook after scoring “only” 27 points in a loss to Marcus Smart and the Celtics on Sunday.
On Monday night, Westbrook was back to being Beastbrook as he put up 40 points and 14 assists, but once again, the show was stolen by an opposing guard: Super Mario Chalmers scored 16 of his 29 points in the 4th quarter as the Grizzlies came away with a 122-114 victory.
“They made some big shots at the end of the game,” said Westbrook who had 12 points in the 4th. “They just made the last run and won the game.”
Chalmers has been playing so well for the Grizzlies that he’s actually making Memphis basketball fans forget about his big 3-pointer against the Memphis Tigers (over Derrick Rose) in the 2008 National Championship Game.
“It actually gave me more motivation,” Chalmers said of the fans cheering. “Just to come out and prove to the fans that I want to be here. I belong here.
“And hopefully they’ll forget about 2008.”
Mario’s performance also had former teammate Dwyane Wade cheering on Twitter.
“Rioooooooooo!!!!!! Proud big bro iam. @mchalmers15 way to take that champion swagger to Memphis lil bro.”
