Last month, Kentucky’s James Young hit one of the most unlikely shots you will ever see – a going out of bounds behind the back save that went into his own basket! Usually shots like this are called lucky, like when JR Rider did it back in the 90s, but since Young’s shot benefited the other team, I wouldn’t attach the word luck to it.
A person that did have Rider’s luck this week was Marvey’o Otey of William Byrd High School in Virginia. His running at full speed behind the back 3 pointer has to go down as one of the luckiest shots I’ve ever seen.
It was great quick decision making on Otey’s part to save the ball but he should have used those quick decision making skills to run out of the gym with a Larry Bird like finger in the sky as if he knew the shot was going in.
