Back in September, former LSU great and #1 NBA draft pick Shaquille O’Neal stopped by the LSU campus to check out freshman Ben Simmons. During a local interview, Shaq said former LSU coach Dale Brown called Simmons “the best thing since Chris Jackson.” Shaq was in disbelief and responded with “Come on coach, Chris was the baddest ever at LSU.”
Chris was the best freshman in LSU history (maybe NCAA history) and it looks like Ben Simmons will be up there with him as one of the best and with Shaq as one of the most dominant players in college – especially if he continues to put up more games like the one he had against Marquette last night: 21 points, 20 rebounds and 7 assists!
Unfortunately for Simmons, LSU – winners of their last 3 – did lose the game by 1 point but it was the 3rd straight 20+ game for Simmons and his 3rd double-double out of 4 games. In the one game Simmons failed to get a double double he had 22 points (11-17 fg), 9 rebounds, 6 assists, 4 steals and 2 blocks. If he keeps this up, he’s going to be following in the footsteps of Shaq by becoming the #1 pick in the NBA draft.
