Blake Griffin Not Doing the Dunk Contest but LeBron Says he might…again

“As of right now I don’t plan on being in it,” “Those dunk contests aren’t my thing, I said that last year. There’s a lot of guys that can put on a great show and do some good stuff.”

I’m sure the NBA and KIA will be Blake to defend his title but I think he’s going to pass on it which hopefully opens up a spot for a more “unknown” dunker like Paul George, Terrence Williams,  Terrico White or Jeremy Evans to enter the contest.  Every year we have lots of talented dunkers ask to be invited but instead the NBA sends invites to big name players like Durant.  I understand why they do it especially when to the average fan, a decent dunk by a great player is more exciting than a great dunk by a decent player.   So if  Paul George pulled out a 360 between the legs it wouldn’t look as good as LeBron doing just a between the legs.

Speaking of the King.  LeBron once again is teasing us by saying he’s considering entering the NBA dunk contest and not just judging the amateur Sprite Slam Dunk Showdown contest (which features 4 dunkers that would beat out the 4 NBA dunkers every year)

“I have thought about it before and a few times in the past I kind of had an ankle injury that kind of kept me out of it and a couple of times I was just like, ‘You know what, I’m going to go in here and rest my legs for this weekend and then get back to the regular season,” James said. “But, I mean, they say a lot of the greats have done it and I’ve watched it over the years.”

I personally would love to see LeBron enter and not just because it would be a nice NBA apology to the fans but because I think LeBron would do a lot better than what many people think he could do.

Keeping my fingers crossed.  We will be there working the Sprite Showdown in Orlando but hopefully we will be seeing LeBron dunking the next night for dunk trophy.
