Well, that was easy.
I’m sure 7’3 Boban Marjanovic is loving his 3-year $21 million contract with the Pistons but hating his 3 minutes of playing time here and there. Before Monday’s game, which was a blowout loss to the Bulls, the last time Boban played more than four minutes was November 18th. Monday’s seven minutes of action is just the fourth time this season the underrated center has played more than five minutes.
So how did Boban do on Monday? How about six points, two rebounds, two blocks and a steal in just seven garbage minutes. The six points was one away from his season-high, which came when he got to play a whopping eight minutes in a 32 point loss to the Clippers.
Last year with the Spurs, playing behind Duncan, Aldridge, Diaw and West, he averaged 21 points, 13.7 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per 36 minutes. Everybody knew he was going to get a pretty nice deal with those numbers and he did.
“He’s such a good kid, at some point I had to work to get him to understand that $21 million was different than $3 million,” Popovich said. “I said, ‘Get your ass out of here. Go. You’ve got to do it.’ But he felt bad.”
But what we didn’t know was he was going to be treated like Darko 2.0 on the Pistons bench. With that said, it’s hard to feel bad for a 3rd string center getting paid $7 million a year.
