Cavs Mob Shawn Marion After Game Sealing Dunk, The Final Bucket of His Career (regular season)
“It was kind of fitting,” Cleveland coach David Blatt said. “They love the guy.”
That guy is NBA champion, 4x NBA All-Star and 2x All-NBA player Shawn Marion aka The Matrix who played in his final regular season game on Wednesday night. The “fitting it” was a game sealing steal and dunk at the end of OT against the Wizards. After the dunk, his teammates stormed the court and mobbed Marion as if he just hit a game-winner.
“To make a play like that at the end of the game, whether it was an important game or not, just shows you what kind of special quality that guy has,” Blatt said. “That was very, very nice.”
Marion played 33 minutes and finished with 8 points and 9 rebounds giving him a season average of 5 points and 3.5 rebounds a game. Those numbers don’t exactly stand out but if you played fantasy basketball during his time with the Phoenix Suns then you remember why he was always a top 5 draft pick in fantasy leagues. He was good for 20 and 10 every night with 2 steals and 2 blocks.
I’m not sure if those numbers are good enough to get him into the hall of fame but if the Cavs can give him one more ring before he retires at the end of this season then maybe it will be enough to slide the former Runnin Rebel with the Snake and Crane jumpshot in.
He would get my vote.
