One of the most common and talked about topics in recent weeks on Sports radio shows has been “Top 5 All-Time Players” lists and a day after the game 7 of the NBA Finals, Charles Barkley was on The Dan Patrick show talking about his top players.
Barkley is known for praising LeBron and how great he is among today’s player and said LeBron is in his all time top 10, but said he won’t ever put him in his top five list which is composed of NBA legends Michael Jordan, Oscar Robertson, Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Bill Russell. He had LeBron with Kobe Bryant, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird and Jerry West.
What surprised me the most about his picks wasn’t that LeBron was in the top 10 or that Magic and Bird didn’t make the top 5 but the exclusion of his TNT partner Shaq. Barkley has said numerous times on air how great, unstoppable and better than other players Shaq was during his playing days.
Barkley also brought up an interesting point about the Heat needing to improve because eventually LeBron will leave if he has to continue to carry such a load that will shorten his career.
