Remember when an annoyed Kevin Durant went off on the media at All-Star weekend, suggested they shouldn’t send him Facebook friend requests and said they get “too much power to vote on stuff?” Sports Illustrated suggested the NBPA should just start their own end-of-season awards and the NBPA did just that.
On Tuesday night, the NBPA and BET aired the award show which was filmed on Sunday and featured cool awards like “player you secretly wish was on your team,” an honorary award for Allen Iverson, SNL’s Jay Pharoah hosting, DJ Khaled controlling the beats, Jalen Rose commentating, and a performance by 2 Chainz on a Phunkee Duck.
Steph Curry was the big winner of the night winning 2 awards (Hardest to Guard & Clutch Performer) but the NBA MVP did lose the MVP award to James Harden.
“To my peers, I appreciate this vote,” Harden said. “It means a lot.”
The best moment of the night was when Allen Iverson honored Michael Jordan and gave an emotional speech after accepting the award for “Game Changer.”
