David West and Pero Antic received double technical fouls following a nose-to-nose confrontation during the third quarter Atlanta’s 101-93 road victory in Game 1 on Saturday.
The two no-nonsense big men got tangled up during a Hawks possession, and their joint frustrations continued to the other end, as George Hill looked to set up a high pick-and-roll with a little more than eight minutes remaining in the third. As West attempted to set a screen for Hill, Antic shoved him out of position. Predictably, West took exception and went chest-to-chest with Antic. The two exchanged some heated words before their teammates and the officials could intervene.
It was a rare moment of life from the Pacers, who were badly embarrassed on their home court by the Hawks. Things cooled after the double technical fouls were issued and there were no further incidents.
Jeff Teague led the Hawks with a game-high 28 points (on 9-for-19 shooting), five assists and three rebounds. Paul Millsap added 25 points (on 7-for-17 shooting) and eight rebounds.
Paul George tallied a team-high 24 points (on 6-for-18 shooting), 10 rebounds, five assists and four steals for Indiana. Lance Stephenson added 19 points (on 8-for-18 shooting) and seven rebounds.
Atlanta, the East’s No. 8 seed, took a 1-0 series lead over Indiana, the East’s No. 1 seed.
