DeRozan joined Chris Bosh and Vince Carter as the only Raptors to ever have multiple 40+ games on Monday night when he went off for career-highs of 42 points and 11 rebounds in a win over James Harden and the Rockets.
“It’s definitely cool because we’ve been playing against each other since we were kids,” DeRozan said of Harden who scored 31 points. “That’s one of my close friends in the league to this day.”
Besides scoring at will, which included a go ahead jumper over Harden with 18 seconds left in the game, DeRozan did a great job of defending his close friend.
“The most important thing, not only the points, was his defense,” Raptors coach Dwane Casey said of DeRozan. “I thought his defense and rebounding was as solid as anything else, which made it an all-around excellent game for him.”
When DeRozan was asked about playing against Harden back when they were just 12 years old, DeMar said “He didn’t have no beard back then.”
