Sunday was a typical bad with the good day for Kings fans. They got to watch DeMarcus Cousins rack up 28 points, 14 boards and 7 assists in a 105-99 win over the Pelicans and pick up his 17th tech of the season. What makes the 17 so bad is it came on an inadvertent looking slap to the face of Donatas Motiejunas in the opening quarter and it means the All-Star center is looking at an automatic suspension the next time a ref whistles him for a tech.
“I can’t be myself. Me playing the way I play is what makes me the player I am,” said Cousins, who also had 7 of the team’s 19 turnovers. “I’m trying to find a way to do what these guys are asking me to do. Obviously what I’ve been doing is not acceptable. It’s not easy, but I’m trying to find a way.”
If getting hit by another tech wasn’t enough to make the victory a bittersweet one, he took a hit in the balls by rookie Buddy Hield in the second quarter.
