Coach Mark Gottfried had a lot of reasons to be happy on Monday night. His 400th career victory was a 84-82 victory over Duke and NC State’s first victory against the Dukies since January 18th of 1995.
Besides being one of the greatest years in hip-hop history (Wu solo albums,Goodie Mob’s debut, The Infamous by Mobb Deep, etc, etc), 1995 was also two years before the birth of freshman phenom Dennis Smith Jr, who scored a career-high 32 points, dished out 6 assists and ended the game with a powerful nail-in-the-coffin dunk. And for his performance that has a few NBA GMs thinking maybe Smith’s name should be discussed more with Lonzo Ball and Markelle Fultz, he got a big kiss from Coach.
