This was just like Game 6 of the 1980 NBA finals when a 20 year old rookie Magic Johnson replaced an injured Kareem at center and racked up 42 points, 15 rebounds, 7 assists, 3 steals and wins the NBA championship.

OK, maybe not but Dirk Nowitzki did step in for the injured Tyson Chandler and played center for the first time in 5 years and racked up 30 points, 5 rebounds and 2 blocks in a win against the KD-less Thunder on Sunday.

“It was the most unathletic front line we’ve ever had in the history of the NBA with him at 5 and me at 4,” said Parsons. “The biggest concern was who was going to do the jump ball.”

They shouldn’t feel bad about that because Magic Johnson didn’t even know what foot to put in the circle when he lost the jump ball against Caldwell Jones in the the NBA Finals.
