With 5 minutes left in regulation, VCU’s Doug Brooks hit D’Angelo Russell with an elbow which led to a flagrant foul on Brooks and a bloody face on Russell. In OT, Russell got Brooks back when he gave him an ankle breaking move that almost led to Brooks going face first into the ground. Russell ended up missing the shot but still finished with 28 points, six rebounds, two steals and the big comeback victory for Ohio State.
“He’s a winner. The kid loves to win. He’s going to do whatever he can to win basketball games,” Ohio State coach Thad Matta said.
I asked D’Angelo Russell who the best player that’s guarded him this season is. His answer? “Nobody.”
