If you didn’t know already, people in Asia love Kobe and if Dwight Howard wasn’t aware of that, he is now.  Dwight and the Rockets were in the Philippines to play a preseason game against the Pacers and during the game at the Mall of Asia Arena, Dwight encountered a few Kobe and Lakers fans.

According to InterAKTV via LakersNation.com:

“During the Rockets’ preseason game on Thursday night against the Indiana Pacers, Howard was on the receiving end of some boos from the crowd at the Mall of Asia Arena. There were also scattered chants of ‘Kobe! Kobe!’ in reference to Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant, with whom Howard had a clash of personality during his one season stint in Los Angeles.”

To the satisfaction of the Kobe fans, Dwight followed up his impressive Rockets debut with a 9 point 3 rebound 5 foul performance in 23 minutes of action.  Dwight also only hit 4 of 11 shots and was 1 for 4 from the free throw line.  He did have 1 nice block on Paul George but George finished with a team high 17 points and still has that fond memory of dunking on Dwight after a whistle.

I’m sure Dwight will bounce back in his next game.  Maybe he was just worn out from doing Karaoke the night before.

For Kobe and Dunk fans, you might remember Kobe’s first visit to the Philippines with Adidas in 1998 where he did an elbow dunk 2 years before Vince Carter in the NBA Dunk Contest.
