Dwight Howard had 10 points and 18 rebounds and the Hawks had a three point lead before Howard was ejected with 5:38 left in regulation for throwing an elbow at the head of the Hornets’ Cody Zeller. Without Howard in the lineup, the Hornets went on to score the next nine points and came away with a 100-96 victory.
“It wasn’t like I tried to hit him in the face, but my job is to protect my house — at all costs,” said Howard after the loss. “I am making no apologies for it.”
And Zeller doesn’t sound like he cares for one.
“I have taken a lot of hard hits with two older brothers,” Zeller said. “I knew it was going to be a physical game. But it was a huge play in the game because they couldn’t go to him late in the game and we went on a run.”
Seven of those nine points in the run came from Kemba Walker, who finished with 21 points and this sick move.
