Dwyane Wade’s Cousin Fatally Shot In Chicago
On Thursday, Chicago natives Dwyane Wade, Isiah Thomas and Jabari Parker participated in a town hall meeting about gun violence and athlete activism in America. On Friday morning, Rajon Rondo joined Stephen A. Smith at the same YMCA in Southside Chicago to discuss race and violence on ESPN’s First Take. On Friday afternoon, Wade’s 32-year old first cousin, Nykea Aldridge, was shot and killed while pushing a baby in a stroller in Chicago.
Police said two men approached another man who was walking with Aldridge and opened fire around 3:30 p.m. in the 6300-block of South Calumet. The shooting took place near Dulles School of Excellence.
Aldridge, 32, was struck in the head and arm. She was taken to Stroger Hospital where she was pronounced dead.”
Wade and the Chicago Bulls released a statement via Twitter.
My cousin was killed today in Chicago. Another act of senseless gun violence. 4 kids lost their mom for NO REASON. Unreal. #EnoughIsEnough
