Back in early 2014, the social media world helped Ebony Nettles-Bey – a 16 year old high school baller in Wisconsin with Stage 4 cancer – meet one of her idols when the hashtag #LeBronMeetEbony went viral. Not only did she get to meet LeBron James, who wrote the messages “#cancerwho” and “EbonyStrong” on his shoes, but she got to lead the Heat onto the floor during a game between the Heat and Bucks. She also got to shoot around with the players and stood next to LeBron during the National Anthem.
For at least one day it seemed like she was on top of the world. A world that sadly lost her on Wednesday morning when she lost her battle with cancer. She was 18 years old.
Our prayers are with her family.
