“There are gonna be nights where Emmanuel Mudiay is the best player on the floor,” Nuggets coach Mike Malone said. “… and, like all rookies, there’s gonna be nights where he looks like a rookie.”
During the Nuggets 111-98 loss to the Thunder on Sunday, rookie Emmanuel Mudiay looked like a rookie but a rookie with the potential to be the best one. After a week of playing against the likes of Chris Paul and Steph Curry, Mudiay got to face off against Russell Westbrook for the first time and he held his own with a preseason high 22 points to go with 5 boards and 3 assists.
“He seems to be very much in control and plays at a good pace and good tempo,” Thunder coach Billy Donovan said of Mudiay. “He made some tough shots, a couple of running bank shots to start the game, but he’s got obviously a bright future ahead of him.”
Westbrook was Westbrook with 17 points, 12 assists, 5 rebounds and 1 monster dunk.
