Last July, Stuart Scott gave one of the most emotional speeches I’ve ever heard at the 2014 ESPY’s award where he called one of his daughters up to the stage after saying “the best thing I’ve ever done, the best thing I will ever do is be a Dad to Taelor and Sydni. I can’t ever give up because I can’t leave my daughters.”
6 months later the inspirational voice of Sportscenter sadly left us all.
Last night during the Sports Emmy Awards, Ernie Johnson paid tribute to Stuart Scott by calling Taelor and Sydni up to the stage and giving his award for ‘Outstanding Sports Personality/Studio Host” to them.
“There’s only one place it belongs and that’s on the mantle at Stuart Scott’s house. This is not for me.”
“Like a lot of people in this room, I love your dad,” Johnson said. “And having gone through cancer, and he and I would text back and forth, and I would just tell him … You may have cancer but it doesn’t have you. And you just fight. And you just lean on people who love you. We love Stuart Scott. This is your award.”
