Earlier in the week, JaVale McGee said he isn’t too fond of Shaqtin’ a Fool and thinks people think he’s “dumb” because of his appearances on the show.
“Fans think it’s real, like that’s real life and they think I’m a dumb person,” McGee said. “It’s just really disappointing that grown men, 50, 40 year olds are having America’s funniest home videos of a player. And then making it a hashtag and really just trying to ruin someone’s career over basketball mistakes.”
Look, this is easy for me to say because I’m not the one being made fun of but it comes with the territory. If we celebrate your great plays we are going to make fun of your not-so-great plays, but we know you can play. A guy doesn’t make it 8 years in the league and gets a call from the team with the best regular season record ever because he won a Shaqtin MVP award.
And on Saturday, JaVale showed why he’s on the current Warriors roster when he put up 12 points, 2 blocks and posterized the Lakers Thomas Robinson. The dunk was so nasty, Robinson’s teammate, Nick Young, even look impressed. Well, Nick (another Shaqtin’ favorite) and JaVale have a long history together at the Drew League and with the Washington Wizards, when they used to make the Nick and JaVale Show – a show where they both acted a fool.
