This is an old video from earlier in the year but since I saw it pop up a few times on Twitter this morning I figured I would talk about.

In the first single of Shaq’s follow up album to the platinum “Shaq Diesel” called “Biological Didn’t Bother,” Shaq got personal over the Warren G beat and talked about his road to success and how his step dad, Phillip Harrison, put him on that road.  He then referenced Patrick Ewing in a line that many critics back then took as a diss especially since the Magic and Knicks were rivals and Ewing often got the best of the young Shaq.

Everything’s going well following my dreams
I dunked on Patrick Ewing, I won the ring like Hakeem

But the line wasn’t a diss at all.  It was a statement about accomplishing goals and a moment that let Shaq know that he belongs with the elite centers that he had so much respect for.

Shaq showed his respect earlier this year on NBATV when he got emotional and actually shed some real tears after the great and now underrated Patrick Ewing left the set.  Shaq then went on to explain why he respected Ewing so much and said the Knick legend (don’t mention the Sonics or Magic) is a top 5 center to him.

Ewing then came back out on the set and ended up having to defend his pupil Dwight Howard.

You can check out Shaq dunking on Ewing and his 90’s Knicks a few times in the following vid.
