I can actually remember seeing OSU’ Gary Payton on the cover of Sports Illustrated and watching a skinny high flying 20 year old Shawn Kemp throwing down reverse dunks during his rookie season in the NBA. And I definitely remember in the early and mid 90s recording hours of ESPN highlights of the two Sonics legends onto VHS tapes that I watched and rewatched until the tapes generated VHS scan lines. Now here I am, two decades later, talking about Gary Payton and Shawn Kemp on the court again but as competitors and fans.

During the Oregon State/Washington game last night, the former teammates reunited to watch their sons, Payton II and Kemp Jr, play against each other.

Kemp’s team won but Payton dominated the highlights with 4 blocks and poster dunk…wait a minute, so Payton is the postermaker now?
