This might look like a play from a Harlem Globetrotters game but this really happened in a real FIBA game.

The Guam player who probably knows the lyrics to Skee-Lo’s “I Wish” is Vernave Calinagan Gustilo (not Jose Juan Barea – more about that later). When he saw his man get open at the 3-point line he had to sprint to get back on D and when you are that tiny you can’t run through guys so what you do is you run under them!

The Australian player who was being guarded by Guam’s Lil Bow Wow (or Shay Moss, whatever) did miss the 3 but Australia still ended up killing Guam by 63 points.

As for the JJ reference, it was Dirk that made the joke – not me.

Speaking of little guys and defense, this is a good excuse for me to share this video of 5’3 Mugsy Bogues guarding the GOAT.
