FERROFLUID; a fluid containing magnetic suspension

The creatives at Nike have done it again by bringing design studio Guild on board to collaborate on the Nike KD8.  As much attention the KD8 has stirred up, the sneaker is getting more attention in a new format.

Guild has brought the Nike KD8 to life by using ferrofluid.  Ferrofluid contains magnetic substances which reacts to magnets in unusual ways.  This fluid was invented way back in 1963 by NASA’s Steve Papell.  Ferrofluid nowadays is mainly used in speakers, switches, low-friction bearings, and other applications where it’s kept hidden.  I can go in more detail about the process of creating the display, but I’m sitting here at my desk trying to figure out how to speed up my laptops processor.  Check Gizmodo for the full article & Guild for more of their work!
