Derrick Rose turns 25 today although Derrick Rose the basketball player turns 24 – just kidding!
In honor of Rose’s birthday, adidas is giving away 25 autographed limited edition D Rose Superstar 80s!
This black and blue colorway is inspired by Derrick’s hard fought path to the NBA from the physical style of play at Murray Park in the Englewood neighborhood of Derrick’s hometown of Chicago. The shoe features tumbled, full grain leather and luxury nubuck upper for a smooth off-court look to rep the style of his hometown. Other personal touches include his birth year, 1988, on the heel tab while the gold foil tongue logo incorporates an outline of his face.
In honor of adidas honoring Rose with these tribute sneakers, we present you with some of our favorite early Rose moments including one of the first Ballislife videos ever made showcasing the young future star dunking on any and everything back in high school.
Since we are talking about Rose and high school we have to bring up one of the oddest State Championship games ever. Rose hits the game winner in OT to win the state title his junior year and finishes the game with NINE points. Nine? That doesn’t sound that impressive but when you find out that the game’s final score at the end of OT was 31-29 then 9 sounds pretty good. His team would win the state championship the next year 77-54.
