I guess Pelicans is better than Krewe and Brass which were the other two considerations for the new name of the New Orleans Hornets starting as early as the 2013-2014 season. Considering the Pelican is the state bird and is on the state flag and seal it might as well be the name of the basketball franchise but I just wish cities would keep the team names when moved to another city. If LA can keep the Lakers or Utah can keep the Jazz I don’t see why NO can’t keep the Hornets.
Maybe it’s because my first NBA game was a Hornets game I’m being a little sentimental. I can still see a pre injured Larry Johnson running down the court with Mugsy Bogues and cursing out Alonzo for being a contract holdout. Oh well. Pelicans it is so fly Pelican fly.
