When Blake Griffin hit a ridiculous no-look reverse layup in the 3rd quarter to give the Clippers an 18 point lead with 4 minutes left in the 3rd quarter I said “you know the game is over when shots like that start going down.” I was done with the game and ready to turn the TV off and head to a midnight showing of the new Mad Max movie – which is amazing. But then amazing happened in the game as the Rockets went on a 49-18 run in the final 14 minutes and 30 seconds and ended up winning by 12 points!
“We kept saying, ‘We’re not going to quit,'” said Dwight Howard who had 20 points and 21 rebounds. “We kept believing. We never gave up on each other.”
The Rockets hit 7 3-pointers in the 4th including back-to-back ones from Josh Smith, Corey Brewer went off for 15 of his 19 points in the final quarter and James Harden scored….actually he didn’t do anything but cheer from the bench during the amazing comeback which makes the comeback even more amazing.
“We were trying to run the clock out, and we stopped playing,” Clippers coach Doc Rivers said. “We gave this one away.”
