Back in 2015, we put out a high school mix called, “De’Aaron Fox FASTEST player in the country?” It was rhetorical but some YouTubers still felt the need to answer it.
A year later I was asking the same question (still rhetorical) as he blurred past college competition, including a certain other NBA rookie.
On Wednesday, during his impressive NBA debut, I was asking the same question. But this time it’s not rhetorical. I know there’s a gang sign-throwing MVP candidate in Washington with Barry Allen speed. There’s also a few other guys in the league who could probably lap Dirk while running full court. I thought about them, then while I was trying to keep up with Fox on his way to 14 points, 5 assists and 4 boards in 23 minutes against his hometown Rockets, I couldn’t stop saying, “Goddamn he’s fast! Probably the fastest player in the country.”
