Flashback to 1993 and one of the most popular songs on the radio is “Whoomp! There it is” (a rip-off of 95 South’s Whoot! There it is) by one-hit wonder group Tag Team.  The song dominated radio airwaves, NBA arenas and was even remixed for the champion Houston Rockets.

On the basketball court, one of the most popular stories of 93 was the debut of Orlando Magic rookie phenom Penny Hardaway who combined with Shaq to make arguably the most unstoppable tag team in the league. The Orlando Tag Team ended up facing off against a remixed Houston Rockets championship team in the NBA finals and was swept away faster than hip hop fans swept away and hid their Tag Team CDs.

Flash forward to last night and the two big stories of 93 showed up at GM3 between the Thunder and Grizzlies and brought back a lot of good and bad memories for me.
