After the Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic put up 29 points and 15 rebounds in a win over the Lakers, Alex Kennedy tweeted, “Jokic may be the NBA’s most underrated player. His skill set and stats are ridiculous, but many casual fans barely know him.”
Very true and this is how ridiculous the former 2nd round pick has been since the new year: 22 points, 10.2 rebounds, 5.6 assists, 1.4 steals, while shooting 63.2% in a little less than 30 minutes a game. Those are All-Star big man numbers and compared to likely All-Star starter Zaza Pachulia…they aren’t even comparable. It would be more fair to compare Jokic’s recent numbers to the big men who will be on All-NBA teams, like Boogie Cousins and Marc Gasol.
Although he only had 1 assist on Tuesday night, he’s been dishing well enough — 8 assists two games ago, 11 assists two weeks ago and a 27 points, 17 rebounds, 9 assists performance last month — to get BBallBreakdown to put together a “Is He The Best Passing Center In The NBA” video (down below).
And if all of that wasn’t impressive enough, if you take out his 1 for 5 3-point shooting against the Lakers, the 21-year old is 5 for 9 from three and 19 for in his last 22 from the charity strip over the last four games. NBA’s most underrated player? Alex just might be right.
