Simeon Career Academy has evolved into a national-level team under Coach Rob Smith.
The nationally-ranked Wolverines haven’t lost to an in-state opponent this season. They won the Chicago city title and now they’re focused on winning state.
They faced up and coming suburban Catholic power Brother Rice coached by former UNC guard and Brother Rice alum Bobby Frasor.
Brother Rice struck first. It was a 2-point game at half. In the end, Simeon’s depth, size, athleticism and talent won out.
Simeon won 70-55. Stats weren’t available for Rice but Marquise Kennedy and Josh Boulanger were standouts.
Drake commit Messiah Jones landed hard on his elbow and head in the second half but returned to dunk on some defenders and seal the win with a windmill dunk! Jones finished with 16 points, 6 rebounds, 2 blocks.
Talen Horton-Tucker finished with 21 points, 7 assists, 5 rebounds, 3 blocks. Zion Young scored 13 off the bench. Simeon point guard Kejuan Clements scored 13 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists.
