“The shots that he made were tough shots — step a guy back,” Houston coach Kevin McHale said about Harden who hit big shot after big shot against his former team on Sunday. “But he’s been doing it all year. He works hard on those shots, and he makes them.”
“That’s my job,” said Harden. “It’s what I do. I go out there and I take the big shots. My teammates did a great job the entire game of making shots, getting to the rim, just being in attack mode, being aggressive. In the fourth quarter, then, I’ve got to make shots.”
And he made 12 field goal shots and 11 free throw shots on his way to a game-high 41 points. The 41 was 1 more than ex teammate Russell Westbrook who recorded his 11th triple double in his past 20 games.
