Besides scoring 40 points (20 in the 4th) along with dishing out 13 assists in his final duel with Kobe Bryant on Sunday, the Beard had 4 turnovers, which was enough to break a near 40 year old NBA record set by the great Artis Gilmore in 1978: Most turnovers in a single season!
It’s not exactly a record the Houston All-Star will probably want to be remembered for and with 1 game left, he’s sure to add to his total of 370. But it’s very unlikely he will catch Billy Cunningham’s 381, which happened during the ABA. The ABA days is also when George McGinnis racked up the top 3 season ever for most turnovers in a season: 393, 401 & 422!
So how did Harden end up with so many turnovers this season? Here’s a little breakdown showing how many times he had a specific amount of turnovers.
- 10: 1 time (in just 35 minutes with only 3 assists)
- 9: 3 times
- 8: 5 times
- 7: 8 times
- 0: 1 time
