Lost in all the hoopla about Deron Williams’ game winner in double OT, Dirk’s missed dunk or the triple double (if you count turnovers) by DeMarcus Cousins, was the exceptional play of Mavs big man JaVale McGee vs the Kings. McGee, who usually only appears on highlights after he’s done something Shaqtin’ a Fool worthy, put up season-highs of 13 points and 11 rebounds in just 17 minutes off the bench.  He also threw down 2 dunks and racked up 2 steals and 2 blocks in his limited PT.

BUT, JaVale wouldn’t be JaVale without doing something worth smiling at. If you go to the 38 second mark of the video, he sets a screen on teammate Dirk who was setting a screen for Barea.  That’s not Shaqtin’ a Fool material – especially for the legend – but it was amusing.

In defense of McGee, I don’t want to act like this was a once a year type event. He’s had a couple games this season when he came off the bench and put up instant numbers.  Last month against the Grizzlies, he had 10 points (5-6 fg), 5 rebounds and 3 blocks in just 18 minutes and followed that game up with a 5 points, 4 boards, 3 blocks in 17 minutes performance against the Raptors. He also had 8 points (4-5 fg) and 6 boards in 11 minutes vs the Thunder back in November.  With that said, you have to flashback to April 15th of 2013 for McGee’s last double double (10 & 17).
