Congrats if you picked up Jeremy Lin in your Fantasy League after his “one-hit wonder” game. You didn’t just pick up the NBA Player of the Week, but maybe the waiver pick up of the year…maybe of the past decade!
If his three-game streak wasn’t impressive enough for reporters to “get ahead of themselves” and ask a dumbfounded Kobe Bryant if he would guard Lin in an upcoming game….
Lin dropped a career-high and Knicks’ season-high 38 points against the Black Mamba in that game.
“I didn’t try to see this game as any different,” Lin said after the memorable performance. “I just try to make sure that when I get there on the floor, I play as hard as I can and try to do everything I can to help the team win.
“The only thing we established tonight is four in a row. Now we try to go for five tomorrow. I’m not too worried about proving anything to anybody. As a team we’re growing and trying to build on the momentum.”
Knicks’ fanatic Spike Lee wasn’t so modest about the performance.
“I think it’s a great story,” Bryant said after the game. “I think it’s a testament to perseverance and hard work. Good example for kids everywhere.”
“Enjoy it,” Bryant added. “They’ll receive judgment next season.”
Little did they know, in a couple of years, they would become teammates, which allowed Kobe to punish Lin the way Lin punished him during the week of Linsanity in 2012.
And the punishments from Kobe kept coming even after Lin left LA.
