Check out Josh Selby channeling Tracy McGrady vs the Spurs in the finals seconds of the 1st annual Chris Wright MS Basketball Jamboree. Unfortunately for Chris Wright, like the Spurs, he had a chance to put the game away with 5.6 seconds left at the free throw line but missed both free throws. The Blue Team’s Josh Selby then made a reverse layup to win the game 106 to 105.
To learn more about Chris Wright and the purpose of the game, here’s a write up from MyMindOnSports.com
Former Georgetown Hoya Chris Wright has made remarkable strides in his bout with Multiple Sclerosis (MS), today he decided to further educate and inform the public about the disease. Wright held his first charity event for the cause, “Chris Wright 1st Annual MS Basketball Jamboree.” There are many who weren’t even aware of Wright having the disease, he had a very good career at Georgetown university and then there was a space between his leaving school and his landing with the Dallas Mavericks last NBA season. The event was held at a very familiar setting for Wright, St. John’s College High School where he was named All Met three times during his career. Due to a rule in the latest NBA Collective Bargaining Agreement, the NBA Players that were scheduled to attend were not allowed to participate. That didn’t put a damper on the day as the talent on the DMV was truly on display by many talented players who are not yet in the NBA. Jeff Green, Greg Monroe, John Wallace, Coach John Thompson the Third, Quinn Cook, Markell Starks, Jabril Trawick were all in the building at one point to support the cause. There was a definitive buzz in the building from start to finish!
The day started with a greeting from Wright, followed by Skill and Conditioning training by The Wright Basketball School and Paragi LLC. The campers were then treated to the first of two games, the first being a High School Game and the second being the Pro Game. The gym was packed for both games, with all proceeds going to Chris Wright’s MS Foundation.
The event was a great step into making the public more aware of this disease, more often than not people are not aware of diseases or conditions until it affects them personally in some way. Dr. Heidi Crayton (Wright’s Doctor) addressed the crowd before the start of the Pro Game, she educated those in the stands about the disease as well as recounting her experience with Chris.
