Things were going so well for the Boston Celtics in the 1st quarter – they were leading 31-16 against the Mavs – that Kelly Olynyk, while being guarded by Dirk Nowitzki, tried to do Dirk’s trademark fadeaway shot. Keyword was “tried.” The effort even got a laugh from Dirk and Kelly’s teammates.
Then things got serious as the Mavs chipped away at the lead and took over in the 4th, behind a game-high 23 from Dirk, and pulled out a 4 point win.
“I thought their energy was great there in the first quarter,” Nowitzki said. “They were all over us. I don’t think we were ready for how intense they play. We did a great job closing it out there in the fourth. That was a fun game. Everybody was sharing the ball and making some key shots.”
As for Kelly, he finished with 5 points and 3 rebounds in just 13 minutes of play. At least he got a hug from Dirk.
