The last time I felt this way was when James Brown introduced Apollo Creed for a fight which Apollo not only lost but was killed (literally) by Ivan Drago in Rocky 4!
OK, I’m exaggerating a little, but our much loved American hero/King on America’s new team, introduced by Kendrick Lamar and Usher, wasn’t supposed to get killed by a hated Russian – especially on this night and in front of all his home fans. But it did happen during last night’s highly promoted homecoming spectacle against the Knicks.
“I didn’t do much.” said LeBron who really didn’t do much.
LeBron scored 17 points on 5 of 15 shooting and had more turnovers (8) than rebounds (5) or assists (4). He also had donuts in the blocks and steals category.
“It was great to kind of spoil the excitement — great for us.” said Amar’e after the game.
LeBron agreed with the first part.
“I’m glad it was great, but I’m also glad it’s over. It was one game and we’ve got to learn from it.”
Thankfully, unlike like Apollo, James is still alive and has a chance to redeem himself and start kicking ass for Cleveland again.
- LeBron: 17 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 0 steals, 0 blocks, 8 turnovers, 5-15 fg, 1-5 3pt, 6-7 ft
- The Cavs were outscored by 13 with LeBron on the court and outscored the Knicks by 8 with him on the bench
- LeBron has only shot worse than 33.3% 8 times as a member of the Heat
- LeBron committed 4 turnovers and did not make a field goal with Iman Shumpert guarding him
