The Kobe 9.

This color way is called “The Masterpiece.” It releases February 8, 2014

A completely new look from previous Kobe shoes, the Kobe 9 is the first basketball shoe to feature Flyknit, one of Nike’s signature materials used for running shoes. Also, very noticeably, it’s now a high top for the first time on a Kobe since his third shoe in 2007. The shoe also has a carbon fiber heal counter running to the forefoot for added support and an anatomical outsole, deriving from the previously used herringbone. And of course, the 9 red embroidered details on the heel as a nod to Kobe’s Achilles sutures

“Kobe is hard to work with, but in a good way. He pushes us and has high expectations. There is no one that is more involved than Kobe when it comes to developing product.”-Nike CEO, Mark Parker

“I look for inspiration everywhere. The low was inspired by Soccer. For this one I was with Manny, looking at his boxing boot and started to wonder if there was something there.”-Kobe Bryant on the Kobe 9

The Kobe 9 was designed by VP, Eric Avar, who’s worked with Kobe since he signed with Nike in 2003. Avar has been the chief creator for all of Kobe’s signature shoes with the Swoosh and has also worked on the Air Penny’s, Foams, Huarache, Shox BB4, Hypeflight and Hyperdunk series, along with others.

“To go into the future, you have to look into the past. From a design perspective, you design is always a play on classic elements with midifications and updates. Flyknit is a high-reslolutions design tool. You can design down to the stitch”-Eric Avar

“Kobe requested a high top that played like a low top. So we used the fibers and material in the upper to do that. We designed for a foot in motion.”Eric Avar

So what do you guys think of the Kobe 9? Worth copping?
