You know Kobe was in a good mood after last night’s win and milestone because he was even giving out compliments after the game. One of those compliments was directed at teenage rookie Andrew Wiggins who got a nice close-up of Kobe’s 3-pointer with a minute left in the game.
“I remember being Andrew Wiggins…It’s like looking at a reflection of myself 19 years ago.” said Kobe.
But last night wasn’t the first time Kobe had something nice to say about the #1 pick. Back in August he said “Cleveland is making the same mistake that Charlotte made with me.”
Ironically, Kobe’s first NBA regular season game was also against the Timberwolves back on November the 3rd of 1996. He went scoreless in 6 minutes of playing time and ended the game with 1 rebound and 1 block. Kevin Garnett, who was a slim teenage rookie for the Timberwolves the year before, had 12 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists.
After the game, the new slim teenage rookie for the Timberwolves also had some high praise for Bryant.
“I witnessed greatness tonight,” Wiggins said. “A living legend passed Michael Jordan, who everyone thinks is the best player of all-time. That’s a big accomplishment. I’m glad I was there to witness it.”
