Kobe (not that one) “dunks by” LeBron James in the Philippines

Once upon a time, 4 years and couple of week ago to be exact, Current NBA player Jordan Crawford was attending the LeBron James Skills Academy and during a pick-up game dunked on LeBron James with 2 hands. Footage like this usually turns into viral gold that spawns a bunch of memes but in Nike’s house at LeBron’s game that footage became property of Nike. After the play, LeBron went up to Nike Basketball Senior Director Lynn Merritt, had a discussion, and then Merritt approached the two camera men recording the game and confiscated the tapes.
Since that day, LeBron has done pretty good for himself and Jordan Crawford has made some noise in the NBA but not always for good reasons. Nike is also doing well in Asia and I don’t mean by keeping production costs low.
This past week Nike and LeBron traveled to the Philippines and during a layup/dunk line before an exhibition game that LeBron particpated in, LeBron was trying to block the Philippines under-18 national basketball team and out of nowhere Kobe Bryant, ahead of schedule, came out and dunked on LeBron and Nike quickly confiscated all the footage before it was posted to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Vine as opposed to just YouTube like it would have been in 4 years ago. Actually, what happened was LeBron was slightly contesting shots and 15 year old Kobe Paras threw down a nice dunk. He didn’t dunk on LeBron but his dunk by was good enough to still be shown around the world and i’m sure watched and enjoyed over and over again by Kobe…Paras that is.
LeBron also helped this kid “dunk on him” but I don’t think Nike’s PR team will try to cover this one up. Actually, they will probably do the opposite.
So why’s James crying…
