“It was just a lot of mutual respect,” Lebron James said of the hug he shared with Kobe Bryant when asked what was said between the two living legends. “Sometimes what is known doesn’t need to be said.”
Kobe Bryant scored 17 points in his final performance in Cleveland on Wednesday night and LeBron had 29 as the Cavs won 120-111.
After the game, the two stars talked about the rivalry they never had.
“We never had the matchup that everybody wanted, that we wanted,” said James, who never faced off against Kobe in the NBA finals despite the fact that one of the two appeared in the Finals for the past 9 seasons: Kobe from 2008-2010 and LeBron in 2007 & from 2011-2015.
“I just wanted to win the championship” Bryant said. “I didn’t care who we played.
Bryant also didn’t see the two as rivals.
“I never looked to see what he was doing. I just felt like we were a completely different generation. I just missed that thing completely. Not like a Magic-Bird sort of thing. From the time he came into the league it was more helping him, giving him direction, advice.”
