1.30.12:  If you saw the latest Kobe System commercial, Kobe explains to Richard Branson how success at success at success works and last night Kobe gave an example as he added another record under his belt by passing Kareem Abdul Jabbar for most field goals made by a Laker.

Ask most people who they think is the greatest Laker ever and you will probably get a lot of different answers depending on the age of the person.  Most people will want to choose Magic Johnson because he was the leader of Showtime and is usually picked as a top 3 player ever and the most picked player to start a franchise with – yes more than Jordan although most would agree Jordan is better.   Then you have Jerry West is the NBA logo.  You have Kobe’s ex partner in crime Shaq who is the most dominating player ever.   Then you have the NBA scoring leader Kareem Abdul Jabbar who Kobe passed last night.

My opinion is Kobe is the most “skilled” Laker ever but Magic Johnson will always be the most important one so I have no problem calling Kobe the “best” Laker ever especially after looking at the following accomplishments and then hearing what the other Laker greats have said about Kobe.

From an older article about Kobe

A lot of people are shocked by the recent interview with the Big Quotable Shaquille O’neal (still pushing that Uncut book) where he said that “Kobe is the greatest Laker ever” but i’m not sure if people are so shocked that he feels that way or that Kobe just might be the best Laker ever.

One of the first great Lakers, the man Jordan said he wish he could of played against, MR NBA logo himself Jerry West even thinks Kobe is the best Laker ever (video below).  So if two of the best Lakers ever including the first great one and the most dominant one says he’s the best it’s really hard to argue with it especially if you have never even had to play with or against anybody in the argument.

The Laker most people would probably have as the best Laker ever is Magic Johnson and although he has never said “Kobe is the best” he did say that he’s the best in the game right now, will probably have a statue outside of Staples Center one day and has the potential to be the best Laker ever…back in 2010!
