Magic Johnson brought some showtime to Providence in the Jeffery Osborne Charity Game

ABC6 – Providence, RI and New Bedford, MA News, Weather

Magic Johnson, looking great and in shape at 53, was in Providence this weekend to coach a team in the The Jeffrey Osborne Celebrity Basketball game (great now I have chorus of the song “Only Human” stuck in my head).  The game featured past players and celebs from Providence including the very beautiful Celebrity Apprentice star Claudia Jordan who was also looking great and in shape (understatement).

Magic even delighted the crowd by playing in the game and showing some retro showtime with a behind the back pass to a guy that wont be mistaken for James Worthy, Kareem, BScott, AC Green or any other member of the Showtime Lakers that were dominating the NBA when Jeffrey Osborne’s “You Should Be Mine (woo woo song)” was on the radio and making babies.

“To give back to Rhode Island to his community is really wonderful,” Johnson said.  And then you think about here is a guy that’s made it but hasn’t forgotten where he has come from and wants to make a difference. I love it. So when he asked me to do it I said I am here, just tell me when you need me”

Check out some pics of Magic and Claudia from the game and some retro Showtime footage below.  I thought about showing footage of Magic Johnson coaching the 93 Lakers but considering he lost 5 of his first 6 games as a head coach and ended with a 5-11 record, I think I’ll stick with the on the court highlights.
