Adidas has gotten a lot of criticism over the years due to all of the players who have injured their ankles and knees while wearing Adidas sneakers but I can’t recall ever hearing about an Adidas shoe “exploding” like the Nike shoes Manu Ginobili was wearing last night.
The bizarre incident happened while he slid trying to guard Rodney Stuckey. His foot then went completely through the shoe!
The aging vet, who scored 16 and dished out a team high 9 assists, didn’t know what happened but was kind of happy for the extra break he got as the ball boy rushed to the locker room to get him another pair of shoes.
“It was a great pit stop,” Ginobili said.
This reminds me of a crazy story from a year ago. Some guy was selling the Converse sneakers that JR Rider wore during the NBA dunk contest and he claimed the shoes with “react juice” were ticking time bombs that would eventually explode. The conspiracy theorist/ebayer then went on a big rant about consumer market vs pro-issued shoes and his drama with the Cons PR department.
I asked Rider about the guy and shoes and I can’t repeat what he said but let’s just say he thinks the the guy is full of BS.
Let’s also not forget poor Calvin Cambridge.
